The real, flesh and blood heroes of America's formative years have been celebrated by young and old alike and glorifed in novels, textbooks, TV, and the movies. The missing element in the depiction of these special people is the contribution of slaves, black settlers, frontiersmen, and cowboys. Although black men and women rode the land, forded the rivers, defended their holdings and families, and made important discoveries, their contributions were left out of the history books on purpose. For black youth to put the final piece of the puzzle of their American existence into place, they must walk through history on the words of authors who recognize and tell the true stories.
I've honed my writing skills in order to portray the excitement and newness of life's experiences, while at the same time injecting important historical events in a manner that does not dull or blunt the readers' experience. My charactrers have many of the same flaws and weaknesses of the average person but they are not weak. They have fears and trepidation but they are not cowards. Defeat is not a state that my characters accept as a permanent result.
I hope you enjoy reading my novels as much as I enjoyed writing them
